Well, someone was selling this like-new 85mm f/1.8 Canon near me for less than $150 USD… I could not say no to it!
Now I’ll be able to make a 85mm f/1.2 L USM vs 85mm f/1.8 USM comparison. Quick thoughts: The focus is much faster than the f/1.2. It’s super sharp at f/1.8, no need to stop down.
The lens looks kind of ugly on the 1D… too small! The proportions are off, but it’s a good “beater” of a lens haha. I can already tell you to go get the 85mm f/1.2 L USM: There’s no competition between the two haha. But I got this lens for $150 USD… which, at that price, is a steal. It gives me a nice 110mm on the 1D Mark IV (reviewed here). Photography is all about value sometimes.
Alright, I’ll go shoot with it and come back with more pictures!
